FAQ
CAN THE PERCOLATOR BE USED ON AN INDUCTION COOK TOP?
If you only have access to an induction stove, we recommend using an induction plate to heat the percolator. Although some induction stoves may work, our percolators are not intended for induction cooktops. Induction works when an electromagnetic coil creates a magnetic field that heats up an adjacent magnetic material that is a poor electrical conductor, such as iron. Our percolators are made of 18/8 stainless steel, which does not exhibit substantial magnetic properties, since the iron used is modified by the presence of other elements.
MY GLASS TOP BROKE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
You can purchase a 2–pack replacement set here.
IS THE GLASS TOP SUPPOSED TO SCREW FIRMLY INTO PLACE?
Yes. If the glass top you received is not screwing firmly into place, or if it falls out easily, please contact us.
WHERE ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE?
Coletti is a veteran-owned and operated small business based you of Spokane Washington. Our coffee beans are roasted by our friends at City Market Coffee Roasters in Kansas City. Our coffee makers are designed by us in the United States and made by our excellent team in Jiangmen City, China. We hope to move production and/or assembly to the USA one day, but it is not currently financially feasible.
HOW MANY OUNCES OF COFFEE DO THE 9 AND 12-CUP PERCOLATORS ACTUALLY MAKE?
Believe it or not, the industry standard for a cup of coffee is about 5 ounces (I know, we were shocked too!). This standard originated in Europe and is used universally in the coffee industry. To avoid confusion, we adopted this convention. Therefore, our 9–cup percolator makes 45oz of coffee and the 12-cup percolator makes 60oz.
IS THE WOODEN HANDLE SAFE FOR USE OVER A CAMPFIRE?
We decided not to use any chemical treatments on the handle. However, since rosewood is a hardwood, it is naturally flame resistant. With that said, prolonged exposure to direct flame will cause it to burn. But this is very uncommon. If you are still concerned, many of our customers simply wrap the handle in aluminum foil while perking over a campfire.
WILL THIS PERCOLATOR WORK TO MAKE JUST A HALF POT OF COFFEE?
It will! And it will actually perk faster because a half pot boils faster than a full.
WHERE DO I BUY REPLACEMENT PARTS?
We sell glass tops here. We do not sell any other replacement parts. But if you have further questions please give us a call.
HOW DO I WASH MY PERCOLATOR? IS IT DISHWASHER SAFE?
All our products are made with 18/8 stainless steel. They are dishwasher safe and will not rust. However, since coffee has antibacterial properties you should not need to machine wash often. Most of our customers simply rinse the grounds out with warm water and are ready to use it again immediately.
HOW DO YOU BREW THE BEST CUP OF COFFEE IN THE PERCOLATOR?
Check out our video instructions. Start by adding water up to the opening of the spout. Assemble your stem and insert a filter. Using a paper filter isn’t necessary but can help remove the oils in the coffee if desired. We recommend using a medium to coarse grind. We use a ratio of 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds per one cup of coffee (so, 9 tablespoons of grounds for the 9-cup and 12 tablespoons for the 12-cup). Some people prefer fewer grounds, and some use more. Play around with the ratios until you find what works for you. Place the stem assembly into your percolator and then set the percolator on your stove or campfire to begin brewing. Once coffee is visibly percolating up into the glass top, set your timer for 4–7 minutes. The longer you perk the stronger your coffee will taste!
WHAT GAUGE STAINLESS STEEL IS THE PERCOLATOR?
Our percolators use 1mm thick 304 (18/8) stainless steel.
IS THE PERCOLATOR TRULY 100% STAINLESS STEEL?
Yes! Coletti refuses to use aluminum or plastic in any of our products. All metal parts are made from the same material. The handles are rosewood and the glass tops are annealed glass.
